Code of Conduct

Villa Park Youth Baseball & Softball Code of Conduct

Our Commitment

At Villa Park Youth Baseball & Softball (VPYB), we believe youth sports should be a positive, safe, and rewarding experience for every child. Our Code of Conduct reflects our shared responsibility to create an environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship—on and off the field.

All players, coaches, parents, and spectators are expected to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in removal from the facility and review by the VPYB Disciplinary Committee.

Core Values

We believe that great sports are built on character. Every member of our community is expected to demonstrate:

  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Good Sportsmanship

When these principles guide our actions, we ensure that competition builds character, not conflict.

Expectations for Everyone

  • Remember: the game is for the kids, not the adults.
  • Treat all players, coaches, umpires, and spectators with respect at all times.
  • Keep comments positive and encouraging—no taunting, yelling, or negative behavior.
  • Support a safe, drug- and alcohol-free environment at all VPYB events.
  • Follow proper channels for any concerns:
  1. Speak first with your Head Coach
  2. Next the Division Commissioner
  3. Finally, the Head of Commissioners and Board President

Parents & Spectators

  • Be a positive role model—cheer for great effort, by both teams, not just great plays.
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child, coach, umpire, or another parent.
  • Allow coaches to coach. Avoid directing players during games or practices.
  • Refrain from entering or calling your player away from the dugout during games.
  • Refrain from watching the game directly against the backstop.
  • Recognize that umpires are human. Respect their calls and keep disagreements off the field.
  • Support your child’s enjoyment of the game, regardless of the score.
  • Ensure your guests and family members also follow this Code of Conduct.

Players

  • Always show respect to coaches, teammates, opponents, and umpires.
  • Play by the rules and demonstrate good sportsmanship, win or lose.
  • Give your best effort at every practice and game.
  • Communicate with your coach if you are injured, unwell, or unable to attend a game or practice.
  • Represent VPYB with pride, integrity, and teamwork.

Coaches

  • Provide a positive, safe, and supportive environment for every player.
  • Model good sportsmanship and teach life lessons beyond the game.
  • Communicate clearly with parents about expectations, schedules, and concerns.
  • Treat all players fairly and focus on skill development over winning.
  • Address any unsportsmanlike behavior promptly and respectfully.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

VPYB enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward:

  • Verbal or physical abuse of any player, coach, umpire, or spectator
  • Profanity, taunting, or unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Use of drugs, tobacco, or alcohol at VPYB events

Anyone found in violation may be asked to leave the facility and may face further review or discipline by the VPYB Disciplinary Committee.

Acknowledgment

By participating in VPYB, I agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and support a culture of respect, safety, and fun for all participants.
